The end of the year is the best time to look back at your social media with a clear head. Most small business owners post all year without ever stopping to ask what actually paid off. A short review now shows you what to repeat, what to retire, and where your limited time should go in the new year. You do not need fancy software, just a couple of focused hours and an honest look at the numbers.

1. Pull Your Top and Bottom Posts

Open your insights for the last twelve months and sort your posts by reach, saves, shares, and comments. Write down the ten best and the ten weakest performers. Patterns show up fast. Maybe behind-the-scenes videos beat product photos, or Tuesday mornings outperformed Friday afternoons. These patterns are your free market research.

2. Connect Social Activity to Real Business Results

Likes are nice, but revenue pays the bills. Look at how many phone calls, direction requests, website clicks, DMs, and bookings came from social media. Ask new customers how they found you and keep a simple tally. Even rough numbers help you decide whether social media deserves more of your time and budget.

3. Audit Your Profiles and Content Mix

Check that your bio, link, hours, photos, and highlights are current. Then count how many posts were promotional, educational, personal, and community focused. If more than a third were pure sales pitches, rebalance. A healthy mix keeps followers interested and makes your offers land better.

4. Decide What to Stop Doing

Every review should end with a short stop list. If a platform brought almost no results, reduce your effort there. If a weekly series felt like a chore and nobody engaged, retire it. Cutting low-value tasks frees up energy for the formats and channels that clearly work for your business.

5. Set Three Goals and Build a Simple Calendar

Choose no more than three goals for the new year, such as growing your email list, booking more consultations, or doubling your video output. Then map out a lightweight calendar with key local dates, seasonal promotions, and a repeatable weekly rhythm. A plan on paper makes it much easier to stay consistent when business gets busy.
