The Daily Social: How to Make a Boring Industry Interesting on Social Media
By Curtis Carpenter, Founder, Vero Beach Social Media

Many small business owners tell us the same thing: "My industry is too boring for social media." If you run a plumbing company, an accounting practice, a pest control service or a storage facility, it can feel like there is nothing exciting to post. The truth is that customers are not looking for entertainment from you. They are looking for proof that you are trustworthy, skilled and easy to work with. Here are five ways to make an everyday industry interesting online.
1. Show the Problem and the Fix
Nothing grabs attention like a satisfying transformation. A clogged drain cleared, a messy bookkeeping file organized, a cracked driveway repaired. Post the before and the after, then add one sentence explaining what you did. People love watching a problem get solved, even when it is not their problem.
2. Put the People Front and Center
Your industry may be ordinary, but your team is not. Introduce the technician who has fixed 3,000 water heaters, or the owner who started the company after a career change. Faces and stories make a business feel real, and local customers want to hire people they feel they already know.
3. Answer the Questions Customers Actually Ask
Every industry has questions that come up again and again. How long does this take? What does it cost? Is this normal? Turn each answer into a short video or a simple text post. Useful content never feels boring to someone who needed the answer, and it positions you as the local expert.
4. Make the Invisible Work Visible
Much of what you do happens out of sight, and customers rarely appreciate what they cannot see. Film the inspection, the prep work, the cleanup and the final walkthrough. A quick time-lapse or a few honest photos can turn routine tasks into a story about care and quality.
5. Add a Little Personality and Local Flavor
You do not need to be a comedian. A friendly joke about a common industry frustration, a shout-out to a neighboring business or a photo from a local event gives your page a human tone. Personality is what separates you from the competitor who only posts coupons.
No industry is truly boring when you focus on the people, the problems solved and the trust you build.
