The Daily Social: How to Promote Small Business Saturday on Social Media
By Curtis Carpenter, Founder, Vero Beach Social Media

Small Business Saturday falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and it is one of the best days of the year to remind your community to shop local. Shoppers are already looking for locally owned businesses to support, but they will only find you if your social media is ready. With a few weeks of planning, you can turn that one day into new customers and followers who stick around all season. Here are six steps to get ready.
1. Start teasing it two weeks early
Do not wait until the day before. Begin posting two weeks ahead with a simple announcement that you are celebrating Small Business Saturday and a hint at what customers can expect. Early posts give people time to plan their visit and give the algorithm time to learn that your audience is interested.
2. Create one clear offer
A confusing promotion gets scrolled past. Pick one simple offer, such as a free gift with purchase, a limited bundle, or a special for the first 25 customers. Put the offer in the first line of every caption and on your graphics so nobody has to guess what you are promising.
3. Show the people behind the business
Small Business Saturday is about the owner and team, not just the product. Share a short video introducing your staff, your story, and why you love working in Vero Beach. Personal content builds trust and gives shoppers a reason to choose you over a big chain.
4. Use the right tags and local hashtags
Add hashtags like #SmallBusinessSaturday and #ShopLocal along with local ones such as #VeroBeach and #TreasureCoast. Tag your location on every post and Story. Local tags put you in front of people searching for places to shop near them that weekend.
5. Go live and post Stories all day
On the day itself, share Stories every hour or two showing the store, new arrivals, happy customers, and any offers that are almost gone. Resharing customer tags makes shoppers feel appreciated and shows social proof to everyone else watching.
6. Follow up after the rush
The day after, post a thank you with photos from the weekend and tell people how to keep supporting you. Reply to every comment and message, and invite new followers to join your email list or loyalty program. The goal is for Saturday shoppers to become regulars.
A little planning can turn Small Business Saturday into a boost that lasts well past the holidays.
