The Daily Social: How to Use a Pre-Post Checklist to Publish With Confidence
By Curtis Carpenter, Founder, Vero Beach Social Media

Every small business owner has hit publish and then spotted a typo, a broken link, or a photo that looks nothing like what they meant to share. When you are busy running a business, mistakes like these slip through easily, and they chip away at the trust you have worked hard to build. The fix is not working slower. It is a short pre-post checklist you run through in under two minutes before anything goes live. Here is how to build one that fits your business.
1. Check the first line before anything else
Most people decide whether to keep reading within the first second or two. Before you post, read only your opening line or the first words on screen and ask whether it would make a local customer stop scrolling. If it starts with a greeting or a vague statement, rewrite it to lead with the benefit, the question, or the surprising detail.
2. Proofread out loud
Your eyes skip over errors that your ears catch right away. Read the caption aloud once, slowly, and pay attention to names, prices, dates, and hours. A wrong phone number or the wrong day for a sale causes real confusion for customers, so these details deserve the most careful look.
3. Confirm every link and contact detail
Tap every link yourself before it goes out. Make sure your booking page, menu, or shop link opens on a phone, goes to the right page, and loads quickly. If you mention a phone number, address, or email, double check it against your website so your information stays consistent everywhere.
4. Review the visual on a phone screen
Preview your photo or video the way customers will see it, on a small screen. Look for cropped faces, text that is too small, cluttered backgrounds, and anything in the frame you would rather not share, like a customer's private information. Make sure captions on video are readable and the audio is clear.
5. Add one clear call to action and the right tags
Every post should tell people what to do next, whether that is to call, book, save, or comment. Then add your location, tag any partners or customers who agreed to be featured, and include a small set of relevant hashtags. This helps nearby customers find you and gives your post a better chance to be shared.
6. Save your checklist where you will actually use it
A checklist only works if it is easy to find. Keep it as a note on your phone, a pinned card on your desk, or a step inside your scheduling tool. Once the habit sets in, you will publish faster, not slower, because you stop second guessing every post.
A consistent checklist protects your reputation and saves you from stressful cleanup after the fact.
