The Daily Social: How to Use Pinned Posts to Win Over New Profile Visitors

When someone new lands on your profile, you have a few seconds to answer three questions: who are you, can I trust you, and why should I care right now? Most small businesses leave that first impression to chance, letting whatever they posted last week do the talking. Pinned posts fix that. Instagram and TikTok let you pin up to three posts to the top of your grid, and Facebook lets you pin one to the top of your page. Those slots are the best free real estate you have, and here is how to use them well.

1. Pin a Post That Explains Who You Are

Your first pin should work like a welcome mat. Create a simple post or short video that says who you are, what you offer, and who you help, all in plain language. A restaurant might pin a quick tour of the dining room, while a landscaper might pin a 30 second intro from the owner. New visitors should not have to scroll and guess what your business does. This one post answers the question before it is asked.

2. Pin Your Best Social Proof

The second slot belongs to trust. Pin the post where a happy customer does the selling for you: a glowing review turned into a graphic, a video testimonial, or a before and after that made people stop scrolling. If a post already earned strong comments and shares, even better, because new visitors see that engagement as proof that real people love what you do.

3. Pin Your Current Offer or Best Seller

Use the third slot to point visitors toward an action. Pin the post that promotes your current special, your most popular service, or the seasonal offer you want to fill. Make sure the post itself tells people exactly what to do next, whether that is call, book online, or visit this weekend. When the promotion ends, swap the pin the same day so your profile never advertises something that expired.

4. Refresh Your Pins on a Monthly Schedule

Pinned posts go stale quietly. A pin promoting your spring special in August tells visitors that nobody is paying attention. Put a 10 minute task on your calendar for the first of each month: check all three pins, update anything dated, and consider promoting a recent post that performed well. Regulars may not notice, but new visitors always will.

5. Treat Each Pin Like a Mini Landing Page

Before you pin any post, reread the caption as if you were a stranger. Does it explain the context, include your location, and end with a clear next step? A great photo with a vague caption wastes the slot. Tighten the first line, add where you are located, and finish with one specific call to action. Three strong pins working together can do the job of a whole website homepage.

Pinned posts are one of the fastest wins in social media, and most local businesses have never touched them.
