The Daily Social: How to Use QR Codes to Turn Print Materials Into Social Media Followers
By Curtis Carpenter, Founder, Vero Beach Social Media

Your business already has print materials working for you every day: receipts, business cards, menus, window clings, invoices, even yard signs. Most of them are missing one simple tool that could be quietly growing your social media following. A QR code turns a piece of paper someone is already holding into a direct link to your Instagram, Facebook, or Google Business Profile. Here are five ways to put QR codes to work for your small business.
1. Put a QR Code on Every Receipt and Invoice
Every customer who buys from you gets a receipt, so it is one of the easiest places to plant a QR code. Add a small code near the bottom that links straight to your Instagram or Facebook page, with a short line like "Follow us for deals and behind the scenes looks." A customer who just had a good experience is the most likely person to follow you, so catch them at that moment.
2. Add QR Codes to In-Store Signage and Window Clings
A QR code on your front door, counter, or window gives passersby and walk-in customers an easy way to connect with you even if they do not buy anything on that visit. Keep the design simple and the call to action short, something like "Scan to see what's new" works better than a long explanation. Place it at eye level near the register or entrance where people naturally pause.
3. Use QR Codes on Business Cards and Flyers
Printed materials you hand out at events, networking meetings, or local partnerships travel far beyond your storefront. A QR code that links to your social profiles gives people an instant way to check you out later instead of typing your handle into a search bar and possibly landing on the wrong account. Test every code before you print a large batch to make sure it opens the right page.
4. Send Customers Somewhere Worth Scanning
A QR code only works if scanning it feels worth the effort. Instead of linking to your generic homepage, send people to a specific landing spot, your most recent reel, a review page, or a link in bio page that shows off your best content first. Update that destination regularly so repeat scanners always find something new.
5. Track Which QR Codes Actually Get Scanned
Most free QR code generators include basic scan tracking, and it is worth using. Create a separate code for each location, receipt, or flyer so you can see which print materials are actually driving traffic. If your window cling gets scanned constantly but your flyers do not, that tells you where to invest your printing budget next.
QR codes are a small addition that can turn everyday print materials into a steady source of new followers and customers.
