The Daily Social: How to Use Threads to Reach More Local Customers

The Daily Social branded cover: how to use Threads to reach more local customers, by Vero Beach Social Media

Most small business owners hear about a new platform and immediately feel tired. You are already juggling Instagram, Facebook, and maybe a reel or two a week, and now someone is telling you to add Threads. Here is the good news: Threads is the lowest effort platform on your list. It is text first, it takes about ten minutes a day, and it is still uncrowded enough that a local business can get real reach without spending a dollar. If you already have an Instagram account for your business, your Threads profile is basically waiting for you.

1. Connect It to the Instagram Account You Already Use

Threads runs on your existing Instagram login, so setup takes about two minutes. Use your business Instagram, not a personal one, and let it pull over your name, photo, and bio. Add one line to your bio that says what you do and where you do it, such as roof repair in Vero Beach or family owned bakery on 14th Avenue. Then follow fifty local accounts: the chamber, nearby restaurants, area news pages, and other business owners you know. The algorithm learns fast from who you follow, and following local accounts is what makes your feed and your reach local.

2. Post Short Text Updates, Not Polished Marketing

Threads posts do not need graphics, captions, or a designer. A single sentence works. Share what you are working on today, a question a customer just asked, a small win, or an honest observation about your industry. Aim for one to three posts a day and keep each one under about fifty words. The platform favors posts that sound like a person talking, so write the way you would text a friend. If you find yourself opening Canva, you are overthinking it.

3. Reply to Other People More Than You Post

Replies get distributed on Threads almost like posts do, which means a thoughtful comment on a busy local account can put you in front of hundreds of people who have never heard of you. Spend five minutes a day replying to local accounts, community pages, and customers. Add something useful rather than a compliment. If a neighbor asks for a plumber recommendation, answer the actual question first and mention your business second. That order matters.

4. Ask Questions Your Customers Actually Have Opinions About

Questions outperform announcements on Threads by a wide margin. Ask what people want to see on your fall menu, whether they prefer morning or evening appointments, or what one thing they wish contractors would stop doing. Every reply pushes your post to more feeds, and you end up with free market research and a list of future content ideas at the same time. Reply to everyone who answers so the conversation keeps running.

5. Recycle Your Best Instagram Captions

You do not need a separate content plan. Take the caption from a post that performed well on Instagram, trim it to a few sentences, drop the hashtags, and put it on Threads. Same message, new audience, almost no extra work. Check your Threads insights once a week to see which of those recycled ideas landed, then use the winners as the basis for your next reel or carousel.

Threads works best when it feels like the conversations you already have with customers at the counter or on the phone. Ten minutes a day is enough to build real visibility in Vero Beach and across the Treasure Coast. If you would rather hand this off, or you want a full social plan that covers every platform without eating your week, reach out to Vero Beach Social Media at curtis@verobeachsocialmedia.com and we will build one around your business.
